hummel x Astrid Andersen

Astrid Andersen and hummel have joined forces to create an exclusive 12-piece capsule collection.

hummel and Astrid Andersen launch a collaboration for Summer 2020 bringing together the heritage of Denmark’s oldest sportswear brand and one of the most defining contemporary designers in luxury sportswear to create a 12-piece capsule collection. Furthermore, looking to bring our century-long archive to the forefront, this collection debuts the all-new REACH LX6000. An advances fusion of heritage sports aesthetics and pioneering footwear construction.

Astrid Andersen and hummel both continue to strive towards taking positive action and re-forming the habits of the past when it comes to their impact in the world and believe this needs to be a shared mission and purpose for all companies and individuals advocating a future of more conscious consumption. This collection celebrates their commitment to doing more, doing better and doing it now. Astrid Andersen has worked with dead stock from hummel’s archive, repurposing this for today and reintroducing what would otherwise have become waste into the market.

Together they have created a documentary video created in partnership with MADD Productions to highlight the necessary challenges and craftsmanship demanded by this process.

The unisex collection blends Astrid Andersen’s visual handwriting and hummel’s iconic chevrons across technical team sport inspired styles integrated with repurposed textiles from archive stock and a reworked signature hummel sneaker. Inspired by hummel’s long history in sports apparel, Andersen delves into the brand’s rich archive, re-purposing iconic pieces to create a refreshed look firmly rooted in a design ethos that reflects the century long team-sports aesthetic that has defined hummel.

Exploring hummel’s century long archive, Astrid Andersen has re-worked the new Reach LX sneaker, an advanced fusion of vintage sports aesthetics and cutting-edge footwear construction. The sneaker debuted on the catwalk at her January 2020 London Fashion Week show as a teaser to the wider collaboration.

"The REACH LX 6000 was the perfect silhouette for this collab as it possesses some very sporty elements"

Marshall Hook, Head of Design at hummel, defines the collab as a fusion of minimalism, athleticism, and performance – with a captivating mash-up of design elements:

"The REACH LX 6000 was the perfect silhouette for this collab as it possesses some very sporty elements – not just in terms of the design and the pattern of the upper – but the midsole compound itself," he explains. "This is something that we use on our top performance handball shoes. It's really fusing together fashion and contemporary streetwear with performance and athletics."
