Sensational Football began as a response to the injuries which were silently being accepted in women’s football. These injuries occur as a result of women playing with footballs originally designed for men.
Despite competing at a high level, as an act of desperation, we decided never to force our players to use the size 5 footballs.
We knew our approach had to be somewhat dramatic in order to have an impact.
In 2007 we gathered a research team, consisting of several highly respected scientists and players at all levels in an effort to design a new ball which wouldn’t hurt the female players when playing with it. The result was the ball, which we decided to call “Sensational 1”.
During the past 3 years we have been testing the ball being through its use in training and games. We’ve tested it on hundreds of players in science-labs, in order to figure out what kind of influence a smaller and lighter ball would have on the speed of the game and the high amount of injuries in women’s football.
When DBU gave us permission to play with Sensational 1, they gave our club the needed tool to build a strong women’s club. Today we have 700 girls of all ages playing with the Sensational 1 football.
We have permission to play with the ball all over Denmark. It is also used in U-17 tournaments in Hessen, Germany.
